Student ratings: privacy notice

Last updated: October 28, 2026. FAQ U is an independent Canadian post-secondary information project. This notice describes the student ratings intake process.

What we collect

We collect the institution you select, whether you are a current or former student, your five category scores, an overall calculated average, an email address only if you choose to provide one, your consent and firsthand-experience attestation, and campaign referral parameters if present. Technical and anti-spam information may be processed by our hosting provider as part of receiving submissions.

Why we collect it

We use this information to receive and manage student ratings; screen possible spam, duplicates, and misuse; follow up about eligibility or rating accuracy if you voluntarily provide contact details; understand participation; and, after quality checks, prepare anonymized aggregate summaries that may be published later.

Who sees it

FAQ U administrators and the service providers required to operate the form may process submissions. If you provide an email address, it will not be publicly displayed. Not collecting an email does not guarantee total anonymity: technical data may be processed by the hosting service. We do not publish individual ratings while this initial collection and screening process is underway. Hosting and processing may involve service providers outside your province or Canada.

How long we keep it

We retain submissions only as long as reasonably needed for screening, research, and the stated purposes, and review data for deletion when no longer needed. Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information, subject to applicable obligations.

Your choices

Submitting is voluntary. You can refrain from submitting ratings. You may contact us to withdraw future use of your personal data or request deletion, subject to legal or operational limits. An email address is optional and is not needed to submit a rating. If you omit it, we cannot later contact you to establish eligibility or to locate your specific submission for an individual deletion request. Unverified submissions may be excluded from publicly reported scores. We do not use the ratings email field to subscribe you to marketing messages.
